  • Mark and Sunrise Ruffalo love the nineties! We spoke to the couple at last night’s opening of Clive, in which Ethan Hawke plays a drug-addict musician who is sort of nineties-inspired, and found out what they miss most about the decade that brought you Hawke’s ultimate masterpiece, Reality Bites.

Anything you’re nostalgic about from the nineties?
Mark: It seems like it was just yesterday! Plaid shirts. Guns N’ Roses. Bandanas. Axl Rose.
    Sunrise: I say Nirvana.

Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses didn’t like each other very much. Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose did not get along.
Mark: Come on! That’s what I miss the most — Kurt Cobain and Axl Rose, fist-fighting. That was awesome. I miss that. Where are those days?

Courtney Love got in her fair share of fights, too. Remember when she clocked Kathleen Hanna at Lollapalooza?
Mark: And I miss Courtney Love getting in fights, too. Courtney Love punching out photographers I miss. What happened to that Courtney Love? What else do we miss from the nineties?
    Sunrise: Your freedom?
Mark: Carousing! Not my freedom so much. Carousing.
Sunrise: You always had serious girlfriends.

So you never dated someone like Clive?
Mark: I never dated someone like Clive. I tried to be like Clive. I had two weeks in New York City like Clive, and then I ran back to my girlfriend … Is Bubblicious from the nineties? Bubblicious.
