  • When the Marvel historians document the war between Thanos and the Avengers, they’ll say it all changed on Thursday. That’s when directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo announced the start of filming on Avengers 4, the untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War that’s been teased as a game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe of films.

“Beginning the end,” reads a post on their official Facebook page along with a teaser image of a gloved hand holding up four fingers.

  • Ruffalo joined Marvel’s Kevin Feige onstage today at D23 Expo to share an exclusive trailer of “Avengers: Infinity War” alongside other Marvel Cinematic Universe favorites, like Dave Bautista, Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman, Josh Brolin, Don Cheadle, Benedict Cumberbatch, Robert Downey Jr., Karen Gillan, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Pom Klementieff, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, and co-director Joe Russo.

Following the screening — which received deafening applause from the audience — Ruffalo spoke to Variety about a potential spin-off of his own.

I want to just make one thing perfectly clear today: A standalone ‘Hulk’ movie will never happen. Universal has the rights, and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel. And, they don’t want to make money.

  • Filming of The Avengers: Infinity War is on full force and while we don’t have much to talk, behind the scenes are quite a thing now.

Earlier this week Robert Downey Junior has posted on his Twitter account a photo of him, Mark and Benedict enjoying a lunch together.

Then Mark posted on his Instagram, on National Selfie Day, the Science Bros reunited. The film is set to be the reunion of the characters who developed a close relationship throughout the previous two Avengers movies before Banner decided to literally jet off of Earth. Check the photo below:

#nationalselfie day. Science Bros Style. With the inimitable @robertdowneyjr

A post shared by Mark Ruffalo (@markruffalo) on

Both of the Science Bros actors will appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe films ahead of Avengers: Infinity War. Iron Man is set to play a considerable part in Spider-Man: Homecoming which hits theaters in July while Banner will be resurfacing in Thor: Ragnarok in November.

Since their last meeting in Avengers: Age of Ultron, both characters will have undergone serious changes by the time Infinity War rolls around. Tony Stark felt the guilt of the Avengers’ actions and his own creation of Ultron and voted to side with the government and force the team to work under their guidelines. Banner will have explored the cosmic side of the universe with Thor, encountering alien life for the first time since the Chitauri attempted to invade New York.

Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos.

Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled sequel are filming back-to-back for a May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 release, respectively.

  • The current issue of Entertainment Weekly – now on stands – has the first look inside Thor: Ragnarok. Including the film plot:

When we last saw Thor, he was flying off to figure out who was manipulating the Avengers at the end of Age of Ultron. Eventually, he hears rumblings of trouble in Asgard: His evil brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), has been impersonating their missing father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Loki’s rather lax governing leads to the reemergence of an imprisoned Hela (Cate Blanchett). Thor’s initial encounter with Hela gets him blasted to Sakaar, a barbaric planet ruled by the charming but nefarious Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), a tough, hard-drinking warrior hiding out on Sakaar brings the god to the Grandmaster. “Thor is a bit of a fanboy for the Valkyrie, the elite women warriors,” Hemsworth says. Thor is then forced into becoming a gladiator, which leads to his haircut and the loss of his trusty hammer.

Sakaar’s most popular and successful gladiator? Bruce Banner, a.k.a. the Hulk. Comics fans will recognize this plotline as part of the popular Planet Hulk series. “He’s much more of a character than the green rage machine you’ve seen in the Avengers movies,” Ruffalo says of this new Hulk. “He’s got a swagger. He’s like a god.”

Once Thor and Hulk unite, Ragnarok becomes a sort of road-trip film, with director Taika Waititi drawing inspiration from movies like 48 HRS., Withnail and I, and even Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The director particularly wanted to show off Hemsworth’s comedic abilities, only recently exploited in films like Vacation and Ghostbusters. “He’s so good and underutilized in that department,” Waititi says. “He’s legitimately one of the funniest things in this film.”

Fans will also see some familiar faces, like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange. The New York-based sorcerer met with Thor in the post-credits epilogue of Doctor Strange, and he will help the Asgardian locate Odin. Teases Feige, “There’s not a whole lot that takes place on Earth in this film, and that’s one of the things that does.”

    Sounds fun, huh?

  • During the press interviews for Avengers: Age of Ultron IGN sat down with Mark and Scarlett for some chat and they teased fans on what could be a solo Hulk film.

Ruffalo: “Well he’s going to space. Yeah, I mean there’s some talk of maybe Planet Hulk.”
IGN: “Would you like to see that?”
Ruffalo: “I’d be completely interested in entertaining that.”
Johansson: “Do they have a Starbucks there? That’s what I want to know.”
Ruffalo: [Laughs] “They don’t. It’s pretty bleak.”
