‘Foxcatcher’ Re-Sked Leaves AFI Fest in the Lurch

The AFI Festival is searching a replacement for Sony Classics’ “Foxcatcher,” which had been set for a Nov. 8 world premiere at the Chinese Theater.

Sony Classics announced Thursday evening that it had pushed the release of the psychological drama, directed by Bennett Miller and starring Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum, to 2014 to give filmmakers more time to finish.

An AFI spokeswoman told Variety on Friday that the festival would have a replacement title in place by Oct. 22, when the final lineup is set. She did not disclose which films are under consideration but noted that a new title could be named before Oct. 22.
